What is your reputation costing you?
Estimate only. These figures apply published review-impact research to the numbers you enter and vary by business.
- Revenue change per star: Luca, Harvard Business School 2016: a one star rise lifts independent restaurant revenue 5 to 9 percent. We use the conservative 5 (source)
- Rating buyers expect: BrightLocal: most consumers now require 4.0 stars or more, and 3.0 is the floor below which the majority disengage (source)
- Buyers deterred under 3.0 stars: BrightLocal 2023 and 2024: 71 to 87 percent would not consider a business below 3.0 stars (source, indicative)
- Buyers deterred 3.0 to 3.9 stars: BrightLocal: about 40 percent require a 4.0 minimum, so they avoid the 3 star band (source, indicative)
- Buyers deterred 4.0 stars and up: BrightLocal: about 10 percent hold out for a near perfect rating (source, indicative)
How to read this estimate
This is an estimate, not a prediction. It applies published research on how online ratings affect revenue to the numbers you enter, and the real figure varies by business. The strongest evidence comes from local consumer facing businesses, restaurants, and hotels, so the estimate is most reliable there. It tends to overstate the impact for large chains, well known national brands, and B2B or high consideration purchases, where buyers rely less on star ratings. Treat it as a starting point for a conversation, not a guarantee.
